The vine is upright in habit forming small thickets and exhibits low thorniness in comparison to most Rubus species. The leaves are compound and it produces showy white flowers before the tasteless edible red berry. Berries are said to have medicinal compounds and have been used to help cancer patients. Used widely by our custodians the Native Australian Aboriginals as an important Bush Food Tucker. Red berries look great in salads for added striking colour.
It has been commercially cultivated to a limited extent in Australia as a cool season punnet fruit
Weed Risk : There is concern that R. probus could become a rampant environmental weed, similar to blackberry, when grown outside of its natural range.

The plant and its fruit is known as uchuva (Colombia), Cape gooseberry (South Africa, UK, New Zealand), Inca berry, Aztec berry, golden berry, giant ground cherry, African ground cherry, Peruvian groundcherry, Peruvian cherry, amour en cage (France, French for "love in a cage"), and sometimes simply Physalis (United Kingdom)
It is indigenous to South America , originally from Peru, but has been cultivated in England since the late 18th century and in South Africa in the region of the Cape of Good Hope since at least the start of the 19th century.
A close relative to the Tomato.
Like a tomato, it contains numerous small seeds. It is bright yellow to orange in color, and it is sweet when ripe, with a characteristic, mildly tart flavor, making it ideal for snacks, pies, or jams. Used freshly picked raw in savory salads and sweet fruit salads, sometimes combined with avocado. Also, because of the fruit's decorative appearance, it is popular in restaurants as an exotic garnish for desserts.
Cape gooseberries are low in calories (53 kcal) and contains moderate levels of vitamin C, thiamine, niacin among numerous other nutrients. Oil from different berry components, primarily its seeds, showed that linoleic acid and oleic acid were the main fatty acids, beta-sitosterol & campesterol as principal phytosterols, and the oil contained vitamin K & beta-carotene .
Cape gooseberry and its constituents, such as polyphenols and/or carotenoids, includes studies on anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Mexican or Perennial Coriander. Long living perennial plant as the name suggests, also called Thai Coriander, or Pointed Cilantro, Cilentro, Culantro, Thorny Coriander, Ngo Gai, Mexican Coriander, Phak Chee Farang, Daunketumbar Jawa, Chinese Coriander, and Long Leafed Coriander.
It originates from Central America, the Caribbean islands, Puerto Rico and Mexico and is cultivated throughout Southeast Asia and Latin America.
The leaves of perennial coriander are long with a serrated edge. It flowers profusely especially during summer, the prickly flower heads should be regularly pruned from the plant, this encourages the leaves to grow.

Sawtooth coriander leaves have great potential for drying as it does retain the coriander flavor unlike the common annual coriander which losses most flavour once dried.
